One shot. 22 layers of mattes.

We were asked to help with wire removal and mattes on this Appy Fizz spot.

Why 22? A matte is a cut-out of one element in the shot. The CG had to be added between the live-action elements. So every element had to be cut out on its own. Think of stacking sheets of glass, with the CG sitting between them. More depth in the shot means more sheets.

What we delivered:

1. Wire removal.
2. Separate mattes for each live-action element.
3. In one shot, 22 different layers of mattes.
